![]() Īrmand de Brignac Rosé was first introduced in 2008. The assemblage typically comprises 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier. There are five cuvées in the Armand de Brignac range:Īrmand de Brignac Brut Gold is the flagship tête de cuvée from the 13th generation Montagne de Reims champagne growers, the Cattier family, the first bottles were released in 2006. Champagnes Īll champagnes in the portfolio are an assemblage of three vintages. In November 2014 it was announced that the champagne brand had been bought by a company led by Jay-Z. This was required by the French industry group Comité Interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne (CIVC) to avoid any confusion with the northwestern French village of Brignac, sitting just outside of the Champagne region itself. ![]() Dormant for decades, the brand was revived for the new champagne after adding the name Armand. It was chosen at that time by his mother, who had been reading a novel featuring a character named de Brignac. The original "de Brignac" name was registered by the Cattier family in "the late 1940s or early 50s", according to Jean-Jacques Cattier. The first bottles of Armand de Brignac Brut Gold left the cellars in France in 2006. As someone who is generally not a huge fan of the demi-sec style, a very good example by any reckoning. At the turn of the twenty-first century, the Cattier family began to set aside parcels of reserve wines for a new ultra prestige Champagne project. On the palate the sweetness is beautifully balanced by the acidity, a lime-like fruitiness and good length with a creaminess and mouth-filling richness. There is baked apple pie crust and caramelised apples. The initial impression of this pale gold wine with its streaming bubbles is of toastiness, with plenty of buttery, brioche and vanilla character and of truffly developed aromas too. A blend of 2006, 20 vintages, the cepage is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, with a dosage on the lower limit for demi-sec at 33g/L. But to live up to this price tag takes much more than the considerable layers of bling, and the Champagne itself was an excellent example of its off-dry style. (2016) The presentation is astonishing: a black neoprene cover opens to reveal a black lacquered wooden case and, cossetted in its velvet lining, a metallic purple bottle with pewter front and rear labels. I'm not generally a Demi-sec fan, but I have to say this is a terrific interpretation." - 93/100, Tom Cannavan ![]() The palate is soft and rolling, sweet nectarine and marshmallow vanilla note, but the sweetness very nicely balanced. Slightly darker in colour than the Brut, it has a lemony and yeast nose, some biscuit and autolytic character, and doesn't immediately reveal that it will be Demi-sec. The wine arose from experimentation in the winery, even though the Cattier's realised that Demi-sec was a controversial style, it was decided the wine could be launched as a Prestige cuvée, made with sweetness at the lower end of the Demi-sec category (which begins at 32g/l). Bottled in a Deep Pink plated bottle.Ĭritic tasting note: "(2019) The basics are the same as the Brut Gold, with wines from 2009, 20 and a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. ![]()
